About

I never planned to be a breakup coach.

Then in 2021, my wife asked for a divorce — and I learned everything the hard way.

Cole Zesiger

How it started

It was 2 a.m. on the bathroom floor.

I got married at 20. I thought I had figured out the part of life everyone else seemed to be confused about. By 23, my marriage was over.

When she said she wanted a divorce, I crumbled. I sat on the bathroom floor, sobbing. I told her every reason this didn't make sense. I made promises I couldn't keep. I tried everything I had read on the internet and heard from friends — and none of it worked.

The truth is, none of it could have worked. I just didn't know that yet.

What I did next

Was completely unhealthy.

One month after my marriage ended, I started dating someone new. I told myself I was ready. I told myself this would be the antidote. I told myself a lot of things that turned out to be wrong.

Ten months later, that relationship ended too. And I sat with a different kind of pain — the kind that comes from realizing you haven't actually been healing. You've just been running.

I was, once again, wrong.

That second breakup is when I made a decision that changed everything: I would never go through this without understanding it again. I'd learn what was actually happening — biologically, psychologically, in attachment patterns I couldn't see — and I'd build a way through it that worked.

The work

I became obsessed with what actually heals.

Attachment theory. Psychological reactance. The neuroscience of rumination. Why some breakups end in reconciliation and others in peace and others in years of being stuck. The patterns are real, and once you can see them, you can move through them.

I started coaching one person, then a few, then a hundred. The framework I built for my own breakup got tested across thousands of situations — men, women, every age bracket, every kind of relationship. The Renewal Framework you'll find on this site is what came out of that work.

2,000+ clients later, I can tell you this with certainty: you are not as alone in this as it feels, and the path back is more knowable than it feels.

The short version

Here's how it went.

  1. 2018

I got married at 20. I thought I had figured it out.

  2. 2021

My wife asked for a divorce. I was crushed. One month later, I tried to outrun the pain by jumping into another relationship.

  3. 2022

After 10 months, that relationship ended too. I made a decision: never again. I'd learn everything I could about why we break — and how we actually heal.

  4. 2023

I met and married my wife Jocelyn — who had also been through a divorce before we met.

  5. 2024

We had our first baby. I started applying the framework I built for my clients to my own marriage.

  6. 2025

2,000+ clients later, this is my life's work — helping people heal heartbreak the way I wish I had been helped.

What this work means now

I am grateful for my breakup.

The life on the other side of that breakup — Jocelyn and our daughter.

I would not have my wife. I would not have my daughter. I would not be doing the work I'm doing — the work that helps thousands of people find their way back from the worst moments of their lives.

If you're in the middle of yours right now, I know how it feels. I'm not going to tell you it's all going to be fine — that's the kind of false hope I refuse to deliver. What I can tell you is: there is a way through, and the way through is more learnable than you think.

You're not at the end. You're at the beginning.
